Giddy-Up For Wishes 2008

Martha

Giddy Up for Wishes is about dreams – the dreams of Martha Birkett and the dreams of children with life-threatening illnesses.  The Bearspaw Lions were instrumental in assisting Martha on this undertaking and helped to coordinate Lions clubs to provide lodging and support along her way.

Martha left Ottawa on horseback on March 30, 2008 and rode 3500 km along the Trans Canada Highway to Calgary, Alberta. She arrived in time for the Calgary Stampede and was in the Stampede parade. Her goal was to raise money and awareness for the Children’s Wish Foundation.   Martha presented a cheque for over $200,000 to the Childrens Wish Foundation in early 2009.  For more details (read her blog – it’s fascinating) go to her website www.giddyupforwishes.com.
