2017 Farmers Market

Our Farmers Market will be starting, as it always does, on the 1st Sunday in June again – June 4th.  All our regular vendors are back along with a few from Symons Valley who, as you know, were badly affected by fire this last winter.

This year we are extending the market an extra week into October in order to have a full 19 weeks for our customers and vendors.

Come and see our newly renovated hall!  We have vastly improved the inside and outside and are now branding it ‘The Bearspaw Lions Community Hall’.  We have new everything inside, stage, Bar, audio / visual equipment and a new deck area will be under construction soon along with walkways onto the deck from both sides of the Hall.  As usual, the Hall can be rented for your private parties, weddings or for community gatherings.  Go to our Facebook Page ‘Bearspaw Lions Community Hall’ for more information.

Our inside caterer will be providing breakfast and brunch/lunch  from about 9:00 AM to closing, at 2:00 PM, and of course our regular food vendors will be waiting for you as well.

Our vendor stalls are numbered starting on the East side of our property with odd numbers on the South side and even numbers on the North side.  The stalls at the far East side and in the middle have letters starting with ‘A’.  Vendors in the Hall are numbered beginning with a ‘T’ (Table).

Thanks for attending our 2010 Farmers Market

The Bearspaw Lions Farmers Market  was a great success again this year thanks to our “regular” full time vendors and a variety of new vendors. We look forward to next year and wish everyone a happy and safe Christmas season.

Please note, the Bearspaw Lions do not host a Christmas market but the Bearspaw Lifestyle Center (across the highway on the South side of Highway 1A) does. Contact them at (403) 239-1502 for details.

Our market runs from the first Sunday in June to the first Sunday in October, every year.

If you need information about one of our vendors please check our Links page – most of our full time vendors have links to their own sites there.  If you don’t see the vendor you are looking for, send an e-mail to farmersmarket@bearspawlions.com.

Are you interested in Lionism or would you like more information about joining the Lions club?  Send an e-mail to membership@bearspawlions.com.

This year we are pleased to have Nicks Catering returning to provide breakfast and lunch from the kitchen in our clubhouse.

History

Our market is a summer market (first Sunday in June to the first Sunday in October). It has been running since 1993. The market was the brain child of three people, Lion Orval Grenon and his wife Doreen and Lion Dan Schmaltz. At the time the Bearspaw area was going through a transition from agricultural use (primarily ranching) to residential acreages. A major fund raising activity for the club was a community auction. With the demographic shift the auction lost its luster and fund raising ability. Lion President Orval, set out to find another fund raiser. He was in the Millarville area and saw the impact of the Farmers Market on that rural community. Millarville was similar to Bearspaw in that it did not have a village centre.  Lion Orval convinced a few vendors to come to Bearspaw on Sunday after their Saturdays at Millarville. And the rest they say is history… The Market generates over $30,000.00 in revenues. Lions Grenon and Schmaltz were awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship for their proactive endeavor.

A unique aspect of our market is that it is run by volunteers and part of the proceeds go to charitable causes as identified by the Bearspaw Lions Club.  The Club regularly contributes to local charities such as the Cochrane Activettes as well as Stars (question: what is the only logo on the Stars helicopters?  Hint: look at the top left of our web page), the Cancer Society, Red Cross, Heart & Stroke Foundation, Interfaith Food Bank & many others.
